Ultra Express Link (UEL) Submarine Fiber Optic Cable Installation - October 2019


Hong Kong Marine installed the highest fiber-count submarine fiber optic cable in the world!


The installation of the Ultra Express Link (UEL) Submarine Fiber Optic Cable Installation has marked another important milestone of our contribution to the Hong Kong domestic subsea cable system.


In order to enhance the overall network redundancy of Hong Kong, we were comissioned to install the highest fiber-count submarine cable in the world across the Victoria Harbour.


The UEL Installation mainly involved the following works:


- Lay & Bury UEL cable to 5.0m below seabed
- Cable Transfer
- Pre-Lay Grapnel Run (PLGR)
- In Service (IS) Cable Detection
- Post-Laid Protections including PLIB & AP Installation


All operations were sucessfully completed and the 2.7km submarine cable was laid and buried to 5.0m below seabed.


PLCN Hong Kong Shore-End Installation   September 2018


The installation of the Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN) Hong Kong Shore-End has marked another important milestone of our contribution to the international subsea cable system.


Hong Kong Marine were comissioned to install the first Hong Kong shore-end submarine optical fiber cable directly connecting Hong Kong and the USA.


The PLCN Hong Kong Shore-End Installation mainly involved the following works:


- Lay & Bury the PLCN cable to 5.0m below seabed
- Cable Transfer
- Pre-Lay Grapnel Run (PLGR)
- Out Of Service (OOS) Cable Route Clearance (RC)
- In Service (IS) Cable Detection
- Post-Laid Protections including PLB & AP Installation


All operations were sucessfully completed and the 39km shore-end cable was laid and buried to 5.0m below seabed.


AAE-1 Hong Kong Shore-End Installation   September 2017


The installation of the Asia Africa Europe-1 (AAE-1) Hong Kong Shore-End has marked another important milestone of our contribution to the international subsea cable system.


In order to expand the broadband capacity and to enhance the overall network redundancy of Hong Kong, we were comissioned to install the AAE-1 shore-end submarine optical fiber cable from Cape D'Aguilar, Hong Kong to the Hong Kong SAR Boundary.


The AAE-1 Hong Kong Shore-End Installation mainly involved the following works:


- Lay & Bury the AAE-1 cable to 5.0m below seabed
- Cable Transfer
- Pre-Lay Grapnel Run (PLGR)
- Out Of Service (OOS) Cable Route Clearance (RC)
- In Service (IS) Cable Detection
- Post-Laid Protections including PLB & AP Installation


All operations were sucessfully completed and the 28km shore-end cable was laid and buried to 5.0m below seabed.


11kV Submarine Power Cable Diversion near Hong Kong International Airport - April 2017


Hong Kong Marine has successfully diverted a 11kV, three cores XLPE submarine power cable near Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). 


In order to facilitate the construction of the Hong Kong International Airport’s Third-Runway System (3RS), we were commissioned to divert the 11kV submarine power cable to a new cable landing at HKIA.


The diversion was successfully completed ahead of schedule. The works involved recovering the existing 11kV submarine power cable below the seabed, as well as lay and bury 6.3km of the new 11kV submarine power cable from the new HKIA landing to a burial depth of 5.0m below the seabed.


TKO EXPRESS Submarine Fiber Optic Cable Installation - March 2017


The installation of the Tseung Kwan O Express (TKO Express) Submarine Fiber Optic Cable Installation has marked another important milestone of our contribution to the Hong Kong fiber optic cable sector.


In order to enhance the overall network redundancy of Hong Kong, we were comissioned to install the TKO Express submarine optical fiber cable across the Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.


The TKO Express Installation mainly involved the following works:


- Lay & Bury TKO Express cable to 5.0m below seabed
- Cable Transfer
- Pre-Lay Grapnel Run (PLGR)
- In Service (IS) Cable Detection
- Post-Laid Protections including PLIB & AP Installation


All operations were sucessfully completed and the 2.7km submarine cable was laid and buried to 5.0m below seabed.


2 x 11kV Submarine Power Cable Installation between Pak Sha Tau, Kat O Island & Liu Ko Ngam locate at the Northeastern New Territories of Hong Kong - July 2016
 

Hong Kong Marine has successfully installed two 11kV, three cores XLPE submarine cable between Pak Sha Tau, Kat O Island & Liu Ko Ngam.  A total length of 2.0km of submarine cable has linked up Kat O Island & Liu Ko Ngam to provide secure electric supply for the residents living in Kat O Island.


The two power cables, each at 95mm outer diameter and 23kg/m, had buried to a depth of 5.0m below the seabed of Double Haven.


The two cables had successfully installed and completed ahead of schedule in year 2016.  Independent hydrographic surveyor had confirmed the successful burial status of the cables.


ASE Hong Kong Shore-End Installation   December 2012


The installation of the Asia Submarine-Cable Express (ASE) Hong Kong Shore-End has marked another important milestone of our contribution to the international fiber optic cable sector.


In order to expand the broadband capacity and to enhance the overall network redundancy of Hong Kong, we were comissioned to install the ASE shore-end submarine optical fiber cable from Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong to the P.R.C. water.


The ASE Hong Kong Shore-End Installation mainly involved the following works:

- Lay & Bury the ASE cable to 5.0m below seabed
- Cable Transfer
- Pre-Lay Grapnel Run (PLGR)
- Out Of Service (OOS) Cable Route Clearance (RC)
- In Service (IS) Cable Detection
- Post-Laid Protections including PLB & AP Installation

All operations were sucessfully completed and the 50km shore-end cable was laid and buried to 5.0m below seabed.


SJC Hong Kong Shore-End Installation   December 2012


The installation of the South-East Asia Japan Submarine Cable System (SJC) Hong Kong Shore-End has marked another important milestone of our contribution to the international fiber optic cable sector.


In order to expand the broadband capacity of Hong Kong, we were comissioned to install the SJC Hong Kong shore-end submarine optical fiber cable from Chung Hum Kok to the Hong Kong SAR Boundary.


The SJC Hong Kong Shore-End Installation mainly involved the following work:

- Lay & Bury the SJC cable to 5.0m below seabed
- Cable Transfer
- Pre-Lay Grapnel Run (PLGR)
- Out Of Service (OOS) Cable Route Clearance (RC)
- In Service (IS) Cable Detection
- Post-Laid Protections including PLB & AP Installation


All operations were sucessfully completed and the 37km shore-end cable was laid and buried to 5.0m deep below seabed.


SMW3 Optical Fiber Cable Diversion in Macau - June 2011


The SMW3 diversion has marked another important milestone of our contribution to the international fiber optic cable sector.


In order to facilitate the Macau International Airport’s runway extension, we were commissioned to divert the SMW3 submarine optical fiber cable to a new cable landing at Macau.


The diversion was successfully completed ahead of schedule on 26 May 2011. The works involved recovering the old SMW3 submarine cable from 4.5m below the seabed, as well as lay and bury 4.0km new SMW3 submarine cable from the Hac Sa Beach landing to a burial depth of 8.0m below the seabed by vertical injector.


132kV Submarine Power Cable Installation between Ma On Shan & Pak Shek Kok   November 2009
 

Hong Kong Marine has successfully installed 2 circuits of 132kV, single core XLPE submarine cable between
Ma On Shan & Pak Shek Kok A total length of 9.6km of submarine cable has linked up to provide secure electric supply for the Pak Shek Kok & Ma On Shan Residents.

The power cable (126mm outer diameter & 38kg/m), together with the 48-cores fiber optic cable had simultaneously buried to a depth of more than 5.0m
below the seabed of Shatin Hoi.

The cables had successfully installed ahead of schedule in year 2008, and independent hydrographic surveyor had confirmed the successful burial status of the cables.

 
132kV Submarine Power Cable Installation between H.K. International Airport & Tuen Mun - December 2008
 

A total length of 20.1km of submarine cable has linked up the Chek Kap Kok Hong Kong International Airport and Tuen Mun in order to increase electric supply
to the Hong Kong International Airport.
 

The power cable (126mm outer diameter & 38kg/m) , together with the 48-cores fiber optic cable had simultaneously buried to a depth of more than 5.0m
below the seabed of the Urmston Road.

The cables had successfully installed on schedule in
year 2007, and independent hydrographic surveyor had confirmed the successful burial status of the cables.


132kV Submarine Power Cable Installation between Black Point, Hong Kong & Shekou, China - October 2005


A total length of 10.6km transmission line has linked up Black Point, Hong Kong, S.A.R. and Shekou, P.R.C. It aims to provide a secure electric supply to the Shekou residents.

A 48-cores fiber optic cable was simultaneously buried along the designated route. The power cable (162mm outer diameter & 63kg/m) and the fiber optic cable had buried to a depth of more than 5.0m below the
Deep Bay’s seabed.

During planning stage, the marine plant was carefully selected to accommodate the Shekou close-shore shallow condition. Hong Kong Marine had developed their own injector sled ‘Dragon 55’ to install these cables. As the name stand out, Dragon 55 is more than capable to bury cables to a depth of 5.5m. Special attention was also being paid to the jetting system design in order to reduce the impact to water quality.

The cables had successfully installed ahead of schedule in year 2005, and the independent hydrographic surveyor had confirmed the successful burial status of the cables.


132kV Submarine Cables Installation between Cheung Chau & Lantau Island,
Hong Kong - December 2004


Hong Kong Marine had installed 3 circuits of 3-cores, 132kV XLPE submarine electric cable in Hong Kong.


A total length of 8.6km transmission line has linked up Lantau Island and Cheung Chau, which aims to provide a secure electric supply to the Cheung Chau residents.

The power cable was considered to be one of the largest XLPE submarine power cables at the time (197mm outer diameter & 67kg/m in weight). The cables had buried to a depth of more than 5.0m below the Adamasta Channel’s seabed, and each cable was installed 50m apart. Three circuits of 48-cores fiber optic cables were also simultaneously buried along the designated routes.

Hong Kong Marine had developed their own injector sled ‘Dragon 55’ to install these cables. As the name stand out, Dragon 55 is capable to bury cables to a depth of 5.5m. Special attention was also being paid to the jetting system design in order to reduce the impact to water quality.

The cables had successfully laid within the planned schedule, and the independent hydrographic surveyor had confirmed the successful burial status of the cables.
